Wanderlust

Wanderlust

A Poem by Liefje
"

A constant yearning to see and do amazing things, just for the sake of feeling a rush.

"

Do you feel her?

The stirring of the air

Around you

As she brushes past,

Capturing your curiosity?

You watch her weave away

Through the crowds

Of utterly clueless people

And wonder how they don’t

See her,

How they aren’t fully and completely

Entranced

By her spectacular

Allure.

She saunters away,

Hips swaying lazily.

You quicken your pace,

Catching broken glimpses

Of her

Scarlet dress,

Her raven black hair

Which flies out behind her

In waves

Through the masses of

Oblivious people

But as soon as you

Get close

She begins to slip away

You grab her arm

Twirl her into you

She has fire in her eyes

That is playful but

Dangerous

You can count the freckles

On her cheeks

Once again

However

She slips from your grasp

Whilst quirking an eyebrow

And smirking, amused.

You begin the chase again.

Can you feel her?

The air,

Which buzzes with anxious

Energy

When she’s near,

And surrounds you

And excites you

And fills you to the brim

With anticipation?

I can.

Always.

Once you notice her,

You never forget

And you are forever

In pursuit.

So join hands with me

As we turn our faces defiantly

Into the wind

And pursue that

Magnificent and evasive temptress:

Adventure

I was not very pleased with this poem by the time I was done writing it. Oh well, I guess. I really need to stop writing poetry though, because I have a bunch of stories I want to work on. As always, any and all constructive criticism is appreciated.

I LOVE THIS. Seriously, this might be my favorite poem I've read on this site yet. As a fellow sojourner afflicted with wanderlust, you just spoke right to those feelings of dazed confusion and desire, of wanting more, of wanting excitement. Personifying those feelings as a temptress was BRILLIANT. SO MUCH LOVE.
