In Her Own World

In Her Own World

A Poem by Rachel

She's lost in her own world
She's physically here, but her mind travels elsewhere
When she stares into space, she sees a whole other world far away from this one

She's stuck, buckled in on a redundant cycle
She's like an elastic band, she stretches out
But when she goes to far she snaps right back to where she was before

She's ambitious, but scared of failing
She'd like to think she's courageous
But she's hesitant to be honest
She's emotional, her heart bleeds in empathy

She's small and youthful
Yet tired and scarred
Purple shadows swept upon her cheeks
But her eyes are usually too bright to notice the dark shades on her face

Her smile is sweet and gentle
She laughs like an innocent child
She's clever and witty
For her time in silence is only for sake of ensuring she says something meaningful

She's insecure at times
But when she's confident, she's a whole other being
For that's when she's in this world
Our world

Her eye's become brighter
Her smile fuller and more natural
Her tone genuine and eloquent as the mumbling and stuttering disappears

Instead of staring off into the distance
Her blue eyes will meet yours
And her face beams of sunlight
Her laugh becomes less like a child's and more like the wind

So be careful, she's been known to evaporate into think air
Into her own little world far far away from this one
Infact she's there right now
