Lonely Woman

Lonely Woman

A Poem by Lefty Enderson

             Lonely Woman

Lonely woman, look at me
Something in your eyes brings back a memory
What a story you could tell
I can hear your echo in the wishing well

Once they screamed out your name
You had fortune and fame
Won't you whisper to me oh
lonely woman, what do you see

Lonely woman, turn the page
I know your getting old, but beauty comes with age
In the darkness I can hear you cry
Making lonely wishes, but the well has run dry

Once they screamed out your name
You had fortune and fame
Won't you whisper to me oh
lonely woman, what do you see

Looking out through shadow painted eyes
at the the strangers passing by
All the colors silently running
too the days gone by

Once they screamed out your name
You had fortune and fame
Won't you whisper to me, oh
lonely woman
What do you see
when you look at me
