Grateful

Grateful

"

A short poem for me

"

Grateful

Thank you for the pain you put me through

Sitting here even though twelve harvest moons since our lips last met

And we are at least a thousand exit signs apart

I am grateful to you

Not for the anxious nights I watched candles burn

Or the promise of a ring that never left the box

No thanks for the breaking glass in my heart with every lie

I am grateful because of the man you lead me to

For the way he listens with his chestnut eyes late into the night

Because he brings me a coke on bad days

I am grateful for the man your hurt brought to me

Grateful

It's 6.26 am in a mcDonalds car park I'm having a coffee and you're poem brought a tear to my eye.
"And we are at least a thousand exit signs apart"
I love that line
