for benny, my grandparents dog and my best friend

a dog not loved
is no longer a dog,
he’s nothing.
i know black fur
and black eyes.
i know love comes from his paws,
from his heart.
because a dog will
sing you his song
if you choose to listen.
if you don’t,
he’ll sing anyway.
it’s in his genes to
love you,
so why don’t you let him?
