I held on

I held on

A Poem by pressedflowers
"

a work in progress

"
I held on as you led me on
quietly without remorse
all this time you knew all I wanted
was to be wanted by you
inexplicably without force
it came as natural as the sun rises and falls
and now exists as a door slamming
shaking the walls

I held on as you called me names
and made me feel small
thinking that true love takes work
takes effort, takes blame,
takes a toll
takes and takes and takes
until you break
unrecognizable to the reflection staring back at you.

The concept of equating 'loving takes work' and 'loving takes a toll' is an all too common mistake and its heartbreakingly explored here. You convey so much emotion and heart in beautifully chosen words. Amazing job :)

Geez this so good. I can only give it 100. Excellent discription of hurt in a way that leaves me with a sigh in the end.

what a powerful poem .. unbalanced relationships can destroy and destroy utterly .. the horrible tragedy of abuse in any of it's manipulating, controlling stages is heart wrenching .. well done!
