Piercing Broken Glass

Piercing Broken Glass

A Poem by Anu

Crushing bobby pins

with stern fingers

squishing fallen sand

between my toes

staring at a tear streaked reflection

pushing against the glass

but red eyes will not change

collapsing on nails

piercing my back

knees give out

and I begin to pray

empty hope leads to a last resort

of clouded felt prickling my palms

I pull myself forward

flashing backwards in my mind

unwinding through what was

and ignoring what is

here I lay,

where blue skies fail to exist

among the blanket of broken glass
