Why Did You Have To Ask?

Why Did You Have To Ask?

A Poem by Imperfection2aT

Why do you want to ask?
You want to ask about the lies,
I'll only tell you a few more.
You want to take a look into my eyes,
so you can see the internal war.
Believe me, you don't want to know the truth,
and once you ask, you'll only regret.
You'll know death has taken my youth.
You'll only wish you could forget.
So why do you want to ask?

Why are you asking?
I weep upon my bed all night,
consumed by cosmic grief.
There is no white knight,
to save me from life's thief.
You asked to hear the story,
not caring about the pain.
I've told you of my ugly glory,
and how my fight seems in vain.
But why are you asking?

Why have you asked?
Now our story is over and done.
Despite my warning you still questioned,
and your stubbornness has won.
You know about my fate predestined,
and of the pain that must take place.
I never wanted to tell you,
cause I hate that look on your face.
Now go, cry your tears of blue,
my only question: why did you have to ask?

You pose an age old catch 22. "The truth shall set you free", but the again this whole mess started with Eve needing to know the truth and taking a premature trip to, "knowledge of god and evil"... (I have my own opinions here. A topic for another day.)
Anyhow, we need to learn to accept some things as they are and to tell the painful truth at other times. It is a delicate thing to know. I think the word is "discernment". If someone loves you and care for the condition of your heart and you need their support, well fill in the blanks. This is a complicated formula however and so many variables.
They had to ask for many reasons...
You can always say nothing or ask for space. A true friend will respect this as your decision.
We really need to learn to communicate better in this society. Everything seems to be reaction or subterfuge. Maybe it is like the movie line, "You can't handle the truth". IDK...
In the end it is not my place to cry for your pain. If you need it, then yes, but a true empathic response is to be open and fully present to the other person for what ever they are ready to receive along with the reassurance when everything is not OK they will not be going through it alone.

OK... Sorry for the long response. You just hit a soft spot for me. :)
Great poetry! Honest and transparent communication. The very thing our society needs.

Thanks! Same to you :)
Wow! I really liked the words you used for this poem, and how you gave it a touch of magic, some words let you see the graveness of the situation and the emotion it contains is well transferred through those lines. Great job!
