Writing Manifesto

Writing Manifesto

A Poem by Lavon
"

Following the rules that each sentence begin with I write, I've written all the reasons, all the places, all the drivers for writing I could think of in 15 minutes. A little stream-of-consciousness.

"
I write to quiet the nagging, shrieking harpy. I write from a cloud of pictures. I write to rain tears. I write to solidify memories. I write to find out what I think. I write to catch myself bullshitting. I write because I won't remember myself, otherwise. I write to give myself space and time and silence and... I write as a meditation. I write myself out of questions. I write to get to the point. I write to hold on to what I've suffered. I write to give gratitude solid form. I write because something speaks to me. I write in others' imagined voices. I write from the other side of the table to find myself proclaiming cant I don't believe. I write my fury. I write to tame my evil tongue. I write because she says she needs my advice. I write the valleys of the shoeprints to see where we've been. I write to see what happens. I write to claim that my views matter. I write to give up everything I know about a person I've just met. I write to figure out that man I've known my whole life. I write because if I didn't, my head would get so noisy, I'd tune its words out. I write because TV is so damned predictable. I write because real people have more layers than puff pastry. I write fearing what will spill from my pen that I might have to write more about to resolve, understand, believe, let go, accept. I write in a rocking sea. I write out of stagnation. I write because I haven't always had the words when I've needed them. I write to throw it against the wall and see what sticks. I write because I dread writing.
Words are collectibles bought and sold at garage sales and Sotheby's.

"I write to find out what I think." Writing as discovery! Writing as thinking. I really enjoyed this piece, it has lots of great lines. My favorite is, "I write fearing what will spill from my pen..." Thank you.

I don't write often enough, but I'm endeavoring to change that. Writing is the art of thinking, so I haven't been thinking much... more..
