AdriftA Poem by Lewis CottonInspired by my friend, fellow poet, and world traveler, Sami Khaliladrift Cast adrift on a lonely sea Waves of emptiness swell and ebb Who am I? Where do I belong? Questions circling overhead Answers floating on the horizon “Water, water everywhere and not a drop to drink” ... Lamented an anguished old man In a distant literary memory But knowing not one’s albatross Being surrounded by crowds, yet still alone Reaching out is frustration personified As others struggle to keep their own raft afloat Alas, one must sail on, clinging to hope That the sun will rise once again © 2015 Lewis CottonReviews
