Love Is PainA Poem by Layne Deakins
"What is love?" she asked, gazing at me with glassy, ocean blue eyes. I ached at her curiosity for such a devastatingly beautiful emotion. "Love is pain," I answered, and I watched her crumble under the sudden disappointment. However, I felt no regret for my response. She would soon discover that love is simply a stupid excuse for the happy and something to blame for the lonely. "It's better to keep your distance than to trust the wrong person and end up heartbroken," I assured her. She was crying now, fearful of a life without love. I knew in that moment that she would one day disregard my warnings and fall so deeply in love that she'd be left eternally broken. I was right.
