Kellan Cornelius Wold

Kellan is intended to fit a Harry Potter-esque world set in 1976. Obviously the Potterverse and its characters are the property of JK Rowling and associates; I do not claim ownership over either

“Supposedly I come from a long line of Kellans. It’s an Irish name, which is befitting seeing as I am indeed Irish.”

“I would join in, but the whole thing is just ridiculous! I don’t see Voldemort’s premise for claiming power, but I also don’t want to encourage the Order’s violence.”

LOOKS

Standing at 6’2” Kellan isn’t a god amongst men, but he can see over most. Weighing in at 186 pounds doesn’t make Kellan any less formidable, but children don’t go running in terror. Kellan has never taken much interest in his physical stature. In his eyes he is how he is and he carries himself with pride. The slight bulge of his bicep tells a tale of wiry muscling under a layer of remarkably hairless olive skin. The golden tincture comes from his Armenian mother, balanced by the pale hairless legacy of his Irish father. It’s almost remarkable, given the mass of hair growing from his head.
Kellan has been blessed with the gift of curling hair. It lies in a thick, chocolate brown mess, given free rein to do as it will, within reason. Sometimes Kellan will tie it back with a thick scarf or bandana, but that is the extent of the thought his hair is given. Unless you count the facial hair he shaves off every morning. The course mocha hairs sprout every morning along his squared jaw and pointed chin. Above his chin sit his wide, thin mouth and broad nose. Kellan’s blue-green eyes are framed by ample dark lashes and thick, straight brows.

PERSONALITY

Outgoing, proud, intelligent, resourceful. These are but a few of the adjectives one could use to describe Kellan. He is at the same time proud of who he is and where he’s come from, while being out-of-touch with current affairs. Kellan has strong opinions, it just happens that many of his opinions are decidedly disinterested. He gets too upset thinking about the “stupidity of the masses” and instead chooses to ignore current affairs or label them as “archaic”. In his mind everything must have a reason to it, thus labeling him a critical thinker. This isn’t to say Kellan doesn’t have an abstract side. He likes to create things, but only if he has a reason to create.
Kellan is a people person. He likes going out and being sociable: meeting new people, hanging out with friends, etc. He tends to be the quieter one in the back of the group, listening and observing, speaking when spoken to or when he has something to say. He is however by no means the silent, brooding type. Kellan likes to think he has a great sense of humor, and prefers making people laugh over getting their attention by sulking.

An aspect of Kellan’s thirst for knowledge is his love of adventure.  He likes to gather new experiences and will try anything once. After all, what’s the fun of sitting at home? He also has a bit of a competitive nature, and quick temper which he does his best to bury. Both of these qualities make him an excellent beater.

HISTORY

Leila Rothlesburgh was born in London to affluent wizarding parents. She, however never showed any ability, and never received a letter of acceptance. With little option, Leila left her family to live in Lancaster. She chose the city because she had absolutely no connections there, nor any knowledge of its wizarding community. She met Elim Wolds when she was 19. They were coworkers at a local bakery, and bonded over rising bread. It wasn’t long before Leila’s stomach was swelling with Kellan, and Elim had no choice but to make an honest woman of her.
Thus, Kellan was born to a muggle and a squib. At first his parents agreed not to tell him about the wizarding world. Elim had found the news hard to swallow and Leila didn’t want Kellan to get his hopes up about having powers, only to have them crushed. It wasn’t until he started showing signs of ability that Leila finally revealed her secrets to her son. This new knowledge sparked an interest in Kellan, and he wouldn’t be assuaged until he knew all there was to know. From that point on Kellan spent every summer with is estranged grandparents.
This was also the point in Kellan’s life where he decided the world was full of mindless, ignorant people doing stupid things. When Voldemort established himself as a real threat, Kellan had to stop seeing his grandparents. The Rothlesburghs weren’t exactly supportive of their daughter’s decision to mate with a muggle. They joined the fight on the “dark side”, while Leila and Elim were some of the first recruits to the Order of the Phoenix. This left Kellan in the middle. Not knowing what to do, he deemed the entire affair “uncivilized” and buried himself further into his studies., taking his aggression out on the quidditch field.

Kellan was chased by pigeons when he was younger and since then he hasn’t been able to get within three feet of a bird without flinching.

Kellan was with his grandma once in London, before anyone was taking Voldemort seriously. There were death eaters in an alley torturing a muggle. All Kellan could think was “that could be my dad”.

 

PATRONUS: FOX 

The fox in popular culture is a cunning and wise animal. In finnish lore the fox uses its wits and trickery to outsmart its larger, stronger opponents. While conjuring his patronus Kellan recalls memories from his childhood with his family and his years at Hogwarts with his friends.
