Poetic

Poetic

A Poem by Lau Thiam Kok

All human beings
by nature
are poetic.

When I am old and
you are gone
far away,

I will think of you
in the fiction
of my memory.

I will return
and from afar
you will wait for me
forever.

What a blessed way to view life. Not everyone views themselves as poetic, or the events around them as poetic. What they are missing!

I feel so strongly about "the fiction of my memory." Memories are so much more beautiful than just a simple record of past events. It skips, it grows, it changes--memories are alive, and are influenced so heavily by our emotions and our view on life. Not often do people like to admit that memory is not "perfect."

This flowed very well for free verse, and it read very powerfully in its brevity. I enjoyed it. Thank you for sharing!
