Exposure

A Poem by Lauren

Losing our eyes by the hands of others
Still we never see this sad story
"Please don't make fun of me"
But my eyes outline your flaws (scars) in condemnation
leaving tarnished thoughts in my mind
a dank cloud above your picture hanging on my wall

Turn away
Lift me from the curse and let me see the day
Help me understand, why can't we live the way
We feel in our own hearts?

Can't seem to see just what it all means
Or realize this becomes a normalcy we follow
"I'm judging you for what you do"
But with MY flaws, here's my good excuse
Different viewpoints can damn one forever
in our minds, grudges fester and grow, and I just..

Turn away
Lift me from the curse and let me see the day
Help me understand, why can't we live the way
We feel in our own hearts?

Seeing me, judging me, I'm living this hypocrisy
Seeking a way out that doesn't happen with our kind
Who could ever be the one to make the battles end
Stop us in our tracks and just begin this road again
But demons can't make friends

So turn away
Lift me from the curse and let me see the day
Help me understand, why can't we live the way
We feel in our own hearts?
I want to understand
I need to understand...

What I can do someday?
It's building up inside
This can't be here to stay (don't want to turn away)
So lift me from the curse and let me see today
Help me understand

Lauren
I had song lyrics in mind when I wrote this. I'm really wanting to know how it sounds to others.
