Dirty

Dirty

A Poem by Larry Dyson

Do you remember...?

 without anger...

can you remember a love devoid of emotional pitfalls...

 would the feelings grow ...?

estranged from the soil ...

 dirty dirty soil....

can love grow and bloom ...

...without the dirty soil?

This is deceptively brilliant. I was so wrong about where it was going, at each step of the reading, therefore each discovery was a surprise. Plus, it's something to really ponder, so you don't stop thinking about the message when the poem ends. I constantly harangue the whippersnappers for painting love all roses & rainbows in their poems. This is the anti-rainbow love poem. I totally dig it becuz it's a slap in the face of all that ridiculous swooning & it's completely true. People are both light & dark. You cannot be in a relationship without dealing with each person's light & dark natures!

"a love devoid of emotional pitfalls.. " there is so much more to this poem than just what meets the first glance..

If love is a rose, it can be no other way. Watch out for the thorns.

Great poem, really makes you think about the foundation of that thing called "love," and what really makes it blossom.
