My Old Shirt

My Old Shirt

A Poem by Larry Dyson
"

for a writing contest.

"

An old flannel shirt resembles me in everyway...

it looks and feels it's age ...along with the wrinkles..

and the worn spots on the elbows and along the tails.

What colors will it be?

Will it have buttons or snaps?

Does the collar have stays or does it button down?

Do I resemble my shirt or ...

does it mimic Me and all my ecentricities

We make the clothes so they say but our clothes do become us at the same time. I never looked at one of my shirts in this way but I guess I do have my favorites that really have become a part of who I am as much as I am apart of them. Interesting writes and comparisons I find in all your writes. Well done

LOL...this made me smile, am sure you don't resemble the shirt in question. x

I should be very depressed to learn that my clothing is a reflection of my character, eccentricities and all! Then again, to look at my duds and perfunctorily assume I AM one is just another sort of the superficiality that so pervades our relationships.

enjoyed your piece and will most likely not look at a flannel shirt the same way ever again. I saw that contest and had no clue drawn upon me - this was a delightful surprise on how to relate one to a piece of clothing.

Lovely write! Perhaps, the answer is both. The next question for me, is how did that happen?

do the clothes make the man or does the man make the clothes....good question. Excellent write.
