You create a brilliant balance between the horror of war and the honor of those who died in service to others. Striking in its honesty, gracious in thanks.

Well stated, my friend! Simple and meaningful words from the heart of every patriotic individual.

I was a Soldier for 15 years. I went to four active war zones in my time. Soldiers didn't discuss why we went. Like in your poem. Few of us knew why we were fighting people in far away places and understood. I lost many good friends. Their children asked me. Was my father death for a cause? I did not answer for not upsetting a child heart who lost a loving father. Many men and woman have died for freedom. I pray us USA citizens don't allow freedom to be dispatched as useless gift. Freedom is something we need to hold to and be thankful for. Thank you for the powerful poem. You open the door to many questions. A outstanding poem.

Lest we forget. Yes, nicely stated! It reminds me of Walt Whitman's poetry too.

A few words with big meanings. We repeat these tributes year after year, they're never enough, they never finish because there's always a war somewhere, but, 'thank you' is a necessity, a recognition for the past.
