I Remember

I remember waiting,

Waiting to get my Christmas puppy.

The twenty-five days felt like a life time.

I couldn’t wait to get my German Shepherd puppy,

Who I now call Zoe.

The anticipation was unbarring.

I wanted to feel the soft, fluffy fur,

The warm, gentle touch,

Knowing that someone would always be excited to see you.

It’s been a year now and

Zoe is my best friend.

I can talk to her without her judging me,

I have a running buddy every night,

Someone who sleeps with me every night right by my side,

Someone who will never leave my side

Or turn her back on me.

I can’t imagine life without my best friend.

And I’m proud to say that my dog is my best friend.
