If The Heavens Ever Did Speak

If The Heavens Ever Did Speak

A Poem by Laura Murphy

The body is a wonderland

Containing secrets the world will never hear,

Never acknowledge, never feel,

Forever extending, never completing the circuit.

The circuit, winding its unique path

Around lumps and bumps, turns and tumbles,

Tipping the scale, adding highs and lows

To the white line but falling slowly.

Falling slow down the rabbit hole

With eyes wide and spinning,

Catching a slight glimpse of light

At the end of the tunnel.

The tunnel so much as touching the finger

Reaching for the end

Quickly pulls away leaving uneasy air

Between the start and the finish line.

The uneasy air allowing

The never-ending secrets to continue the circuit

But if the heavens ever did speak

They would say:

The circuit only completes its course on

Ready, Set, Go.

Ready, Set, Gone.
