bloodstream

bloodstream

A Poem by Laura

you sung me your twinges
swirling in the empty room
echoing like ripples on a pond
finally settling beneath my bones
hazy heads and heavy eyelids
our high lingered as you held me
along speed bumps and red lights
i think i might have inhaled you
crushed powder alongside bells
the hardest part was saying no
with a simple rush and a push
the world became ours at once
thin fingers and blue veins
violins creak in the spaces between us
shaky hands on ivory keys
i only wanted to be haunted by you
things unspoken break us if we choose
the little cracks escalated
with our late night swing set talks
your subtle squeezes in cafe mozart
i held the winning cards for a year
but each day was the wrong time
today, i played them too late
and now you’re gone
