The Feel of the JumpA Poem by Bright Ocean StarSomething that I've been wanting to put to paper for a long time...The Feel of the Jump…Nothing Like it in The World Loose, and breezy Heels pressed down, metal stirrups Balance above the withers Back straight, rhythm flows, Reins held firm but gentle Up and down, hips flex, post, Bounding muscles contract and coast Horse and rider canter together Quintessentially one Both looking forward Eyes alert, ears twitch Anticipation’s switch Muscles flex, extend Hooves bound, and relent. He surges, she steadies He advances, she controls, Metal bit in his mouth, Muscled monster angles south, She corrects with her calf Crouching low, over his back Breath held, knees contract Pickup reins, signal go! He launches himself ready or no--- Fearless, flying over oxers At a height of most boxers Three quarters his size…. She smiles and holds on for the ride They land in synchronicity of hooves and pride rocking as one to the other side. Trust, control, joy, exhilaration His greatest exaltation Catching a Hunter by the main Harnessing the power to train This animal to sail and sustain Hold on tight in your seat and remain To ride another day… Bright Ocean Star, March 8, 2015 © 2015 Bright Ocean StarAuthor's Note
