Chapter threeA Chapter by Danielleyes i know the title on the page says chapter four.......bare with me i got confused when i was writing this :/Chapter four Hundreds of red eyes stared at me, like they were waiting for me. I scanned the room and noticed some of the vampires as the people who have been reported as missing. Tristan’s arm never left me as the vampires smiled a hungry smile. I thought I wasn’t a human anymore, why are they staring at me like I am? “Well, well, look dinner’s back!” My head shot over to the right of the room and saw Keagen leaning against the wall. Tristan stepped in front of me slightly and growled at Keagen, who returned with a growl of his own. I was beginning to get the vibe Tristan and Keagen didn’t like each other. Tristan led me through the vampires with his hand planted on my arm. The stares I received were a mixture of curiosity, anger, and fear. The vampires that were close enough to me reached out and touched me. “It’s a thing they do with newbies,” Tristan explained “We vampires are very curious.” Glares of curiosity continued as Tristan walked me down the hall and stopped in front of a large door. “Was that everyone that lives in the home?” I asked Tristan as he banged on the door. “Most of them, there were still a lot of people missing. Most are out hunting since we like to hunt more at night.” Tristan stopped talking as the door slowly swung open. An African American woman stood there dressed in a grey blouse with black dress pants and killer high heels. “Welcome! You must be Cassidy. Tristan told us you were coming.” Tristan let go and the woman pulled me into the room. It was a comforting room, with cream walls and light wood floors. A small fountain was flowing in the corner of the room. “I’m Clare St. Banes. You can call me the vampire social worker. I work with all the newbie vampires and some advanced vampires to help control their thirst and violence.” so the vampires were ranked. “Hello Clare, Tristan told me a few things about you and the Home. What’s the difference between newbie and advanced vampires?” Tristan obviously was an advanced vampire, seeing how he’s gone so long without blood and fought better than Keagen, who was twice Tristan’s size. “Well, newbie vampires are like you. They are freshly bitten and not adjusted to the life of a vampire yet,” she sat down at a desk and Tristan and I sat down on the couch placed in front of the desk. “Newbies are what we call vampires during their first few months after being turned.” She stopped and took some paper out of a drawer. “So Cassidy, for the next few months you’re going to want a lot of blood, and I mean a lot. Most vampires only need one feeding a day, but you’ll need about three. And you’re going to feel very defensive and wanting to fight a lot. I’m going to help you control that and I’m sure Tristan wouldn’t mind helping, since he is second in command here and in this position once. Tristan fortunately had the advantage of being controlled at a young age.” Tristan sank down in his seat with embarrassment. How could Tristan be second in command if he was only a few years older than me, when there were others ten years older than him here? “Cassidy, have you fed today?” Clare asked, writing something on the paper. “Uh, no. I don’t feel thirsty or whatever a vampire feels like when they need to, uh, drink.” Clare shook her head at Tristan, who shrugged and sank down lower. “Okay, well Tristan should’ve done that before you came here. I can see it in your eyes that you’re hungry. When vampires are hungry, their eyes build dark circles around them and your face looks very gaunt. I’m sure Tristan wouldn’t mind taking you out to teach you.” She smiled at Tristan as he stood up. He tapped my shoulder, signaling to follow him. Tristan led me out another door directly down the hallway we first arrived in. It led out into a large garage filled with shiny cars, very expensive shiny cars. “I take it vampires like cars,” I said as I followed Tristan into a large SUV and he drove off into the night. “You’re going to teach me how to kill right?” Tristan laughed and shook his head. “No Cassidy, I’m feeding you to the wolves,” he said sarcastically. “Of course I’m going to help you! It’s not that hard though, humans are so weak.” Tristan drove us into town and that we were heading towards Las Vegas, nightlife hotspot. “I figured this would be a good spot for your first kill. I don’t really like coming here so much, with all the alcohol you get in the blood, but it’s good because no one will notice one person missing in a crowd of millions.” He parked the car away in a dark alley and stood with me by the edge of the alley. He pulled me out into the city and stood on the sidewalk scouting the crowd. He spotted a couple looking to be about in their mid thirties. “Act sad, and clingy. We have to make it believable.” Tristan didn’t tell me what he planned, but I followed his directions and grabbed onto his arm. Tristan walked up to the couple and stopped in front of them. “Hey, our car broke down; do you think you could help us get it going again?” Tristan asked, sounding like an innocent teenager instead of a bloodthirsty vampire. I kept my eyes down looking at the ground; my large doe eyes would easily show the red. Tristan was smart and wore sunglasses. “Sure, we’d love to give you a hand, where’s your car?” The man said. Tristan led them back to the alley and whispered in my ear “When I get the guy, jump on the girl and break her neck.” It seemed easy enough, but knowing me I would mess it up. Tristan’s been doing this for years; I haven’t even done it once. Tristan lifted up the hood of the SUV and pointing at things. I slowly positioned myself behind the girl and waited for Tristan to make his move. With lightning speed Tristan’s hand clamped around the man’s head and he violently twisted it. The crack was sickening enough for me to miss my change. My girl screamed and started running away. I started chasing after her, but the scent of something made me stop; blood. I stopped where I was a turned to face Tristan. He was biting the man he had just killed. For the first time I felt the burn in my throat, the need for blood. Tristan lifted his head up from his kill and stared at me, blood dripping from his fangs. He stood up and threw the man he just killed over to me. Without any hesitation I grabbed him and sank my teeth into the sweet, delicious taste of blood. © 2010 Danielle |
