Katie
An Unexpected Discovery
I banged my hand on the door of Matt’s house.
“Matt, open the door!” I screamed, I had been standing out there for ten minutes and got no answer. “You aren’t mad at me Matt, are you?” I continued slamming on the door. I finally got tired of waiting and changed into a fly and flew under the door. When I was inside I changed back to normal. An odor lingered in the house, and it wasn’t a normal sent.
“Matt, are you here?” I heard small whines coming from the kitchen. “Cinnamon?” I called. I saw the small cat come racing out of the kitchen and towards me. “What’s wrong Cinnamon? Where’s Matt?” Cinnamon jumped out of my arms and raced back into the kitchen. I followed her and screamed when I saw what she was trying to show me. Matt, dead on his kitchen floor.
“No! Matt!” I rolled him over and stared at him. There was a hole through his chest that blood was pouring out of. I quickly swiped my hand over his chest, forcing life into him, but he was too dead. “No, Matt, no, please, come back!” My hand flew to my pocket and I reached for my phone. My hands shook as I dialed the number I wanted.
“Hello?” Ryan answered.
“Ryan! Matt’s dead!” I screamed into the phone.
“Ouch! Say that again quiet so I don’t go deaf!”
“Matt is dead!” I said between sobs.
“What, he can’t be, I just saw him yesterday, healthy as a horse!”
“He got shot or something!”
“Hang on I’ll be right over.”
Ryan got there in less than 10 minutes.
“Katie.” He called when he entered.
“Ryan!” I ran towards him and wrapped my arms around him and sobbed into
his shirt.
“How did this happen, Katie?”
“I don’t know, I just came in and I went into the kitchen and he was dead!” Ryan
started walking towards the kitchen and I followed shortly behind. He knelt down and rolled Matt’s body over. He clenched his jaw together and narrowed his eyes.
“Get up Matt,” He punched Matt’s stomach “Get up!”
“Ryan, it’s not going to work, he’s dead. I can’t even save him.” I walked into the living room to give Ryan some alone time with Matt. I could barely hear Ryan
grumble to himself. I buried my head in my hand and sobbed even more. This was officially the worst day of my life.
Ryan came from the kitchen and came and sat next to me.
“He shot himself; I saw his fingerprints on the gun lying on the ground.”
“Why though?”
“I think I know. He couldn’t stand being away from Faye, so he killed himself.”
“He would do that. Now what are we going to do?” Matt’s death left Ryan the leader of the Heroes.
“I don’t know.”
“It’s going to be so different without him; nothing’s ever going to be the same.” Ryan
leaned over and pressed his lips against mine.
“Sorry, that was unnecessary of me to do that.”
“No, no, it’s fine,” My heart fluttered as I realized what he had done. He kissed me, the
way Matt used to, only better.
“You don’t know how long I’ve wanted to do that.”
“How long?”
“Honestly, ever since I first met you.”
“Really?” Ryan laughed a little and moved closer to me
“Do you feel the same way?”
“Yes.” Ryan leaned in and this time I expected the kiss. And that kiss marked the beginning of a new life for me.
