Matt Chapter 11A Chapter by DanielleAs fragile as Faye was, Matt never stopped loving her.
Matt
Chapter 11
“Matt,” my head snapped back when I heard Charlotte call me. I stood up from Faye’s spinning chair in the Meeting Room and walked over to her. I had been spinning in that chair for over 10 hours.
“How’d it go?”
“Perfectly, nothing went wrong at all,”
“Nothing?”
“Well, when we started putting a new toxin in her, at first her body rejected it, sending her into mental pain, but we fixed it no problem.”
“Can I see her?”
“She’s still asleep but yes you can.” I followed her through the hallway and into the silver lab. It feels really weird being in all black rooms then suddenly being in one that actually looks friendly. Faye was lying in the same position that I left her in.
I sat down in a chair next to the bed and looked at her. Faye had stitches where they had cut into her, draining out her blood. Her breathing was very slow, but also calm. I looked around the room and saw the doctors cleaning up tools that were covered in blood. With that much blood the surgery couldn’t have gone as good as Charlotte said.
“Her heart is only beating twice per minute, but there’s nothing to worry about, it will speed up back to normal when she starts waking up,”
“How soon before she wakes up?”
“Not long,” Villains normally had a slower heart rate than most people, beating at around 20 beats a minute, while Heroes had a faster one, at around 350 a minute.
“Are you sure that everything went the way it was supposed to?”
“Well, I didn’t want to tell you this but, during the surgery, Faye woke up after the first hour, we panicked, no one had ever woken up before, so we had to act fast and get more anastisiea, so that was the worst part. When she had woken up, we had just cut open her stomach, and had just finished her forehead. When she woke up it opened the stitching in her forehead, making that bleed even more. So that’s why there’s so much blood over there, from closing up her stitches and cleaning her up.” I placed my hand on Faye’s hand; she whipped her head to the side and let out a little yelp of pain. When she opened her eyes they were dilated.
“Faye?” she continued whipping her head and started screaming. Charlotte stared at her and walked over to a counter.
“Faye, are you alright?”
“Matt!” she screamed. I rubbed her hand and I could tell she tried to jerk it away, but instead screamed in pain “Don’t touch me!” I drew my hand back and looked at Charlotte.
“Is that normal?”
“It’s just her body reacting to the toxin.” Charlotte pushed a button on a monitor and Faye stopped screaming and went still.
“What did you do to her?”
“I just put her to sleep, so she would stop screaming and not feel any pain. If you want I can get her dressed and you can take her home.”
“Okay, how long before she wakes up?”
“About a half hour, that will give her body time to adjust to the new toxin.”
Charlotte came back with Faye dressed. She handed her to me and gave me a few simple instructions.
“Faye shouldn’t fight for at least six months, she shouldn’t drive either. Also make sure she takes these pain killers every two hours.” I nodded my head and took the pills.
I stuck Faye into the passenger’s seat of her car and started heading for my house. I stuck the sweatshirt I kept in the back against Faye’s head so her head wouldn’t hit the glass window. When we got home Faye started waking up.
“Hey Faye.” She didn’t reply, instead she whined in pain. I carefully got Faye out of the car and took her upstairs.
It was really hard getting her up the stairs, with Cinnamon following me and sticking her nose under my feet, trying to reach Faye. I don’t know how I managed to get to my bedroom without losing my balance, thank goodness for sliding doors. I used one foot to pull back the blanket on the left side of the bed, the side Faye normally sleeps on. I was hopping around trying to keep my balance and trying to not drop Faye, I didn’t want to hurt Faye anymore then she already was. Cinnamon kept trying to get under my foot.
“Cinnamon, move!” I pushed the cat away with the foot that wasn’t keeping my balance.
“Don’t yell at my baby,” Faye said.
“You’re going to get it cat!” Cinnamon finally accomplished what she was trying to do, make me fall. Cinnamon stuck her paw under my foot. The cat yelped, it scared me, I accidentally threw Faye onto the bed and I landed on the floor.
“Ow!” Faye cried from the bed.
“Oh my God Faye I’m so sorry! Stupid cat!” Cinnamon jumped onto the bed and started walking towards Faye, hoping to lie in her usual spot, Faye’s stomach.
“Matt, can you take Cinnamon downstairs?” I picked up the cat and held her in my hand.
“Come on you brat, mommy doesn’t want to snuggle right now.”
“Be nice to her.” I wasn’t very fond of Cinnamon yet; she was still just an annoying little kitten, always sticking her nose in things she shouldn’t. I’m pretty sure that eventually I would get used to her presence and she wouldn’t bother me as much. I set Cinnamon down on the shag carpet in the living room and she instantly started hobbling upstairs.
“Oh no you don’t. Leave Faye alone, she needs a lot of sleep.” Cinnamon mewed when I picked her up but happily curled into a little ball when I put her in my arm. I gently tossed her onto the couch and went in the kitchen to start making Faye something to eat.
I didn’t know what she would want; so I just made her something she loves, Mongolian chicken. This was Faye’s favorite meal that I made. I heard my phone buzz on the counter and when I picked it up I saw that it was a message from Faye
I’m hungry
I hit reply and started typing a message back to her.
You didn’t sleep long, I’m making you some chicken, should be done in about 15 minutes.
I delivered Faye her chicken and gave her some of the painkillers Charlotte had given her. She didn’t talk much, probably because her throat hurt. It was actually quiet around her for once. In a way Faye was just like Ryan, could talk your ear off and no one would care. I did miss hearing her sweet voice though; it made me happy when I heard its familiar ring. I looked at all of Faye’s scars, wondering if they would ever go away.
I looked at Faye as she tried to make her fork reach her mouth and cringed in pain.
“Do you want me to feed you?” I asked.
“I’m good.” She rasped.
“Get some sleep.” I ordered Faye when she was done with her food.
“Okay.” Faye’s throat must’ve not felt sore anymore, her voice was back to its normal pitch. As I walked out of the room I shut the door so Cinnamon wouldn’t try to be sneaky and sneak up here. As I walked down the stairs I started thinking about what it will be like being married to Faye. I knew in my heart that I was ready and she was the one I wanted to spend eternity with, but I didn’t feel ready preparation wise. I felt like I needed an extra week or two just to make sure everything was perfect. I also thought about The Revolution, or The Rev, as Ryan likes to call it. I knew that all the heroes would probably get their asses kicked; the Villains had about a hundred thousand more people than us. So many things going on in such little time.
