Christmas JoyA Poem by LasergraphA Christmas PoemCHRISTMAS JOY (C) 2016 Edward York
I sit around this time of year, As memories come to me, Of sitting with my siblings, Around a Christmas tree.
The tree was real with a piney smell, The trunk was covered with real bark. The large lights that were around the tree, Glowed colors in the dark.
The smells we enjoyed in the kitchen, Were from cooking pies for many days, And from candy and cookies, That filled up silver trays.
There was no fireplace or mantle, No stockings could be hung, No carolers on the front lawn, Where Christmas songs were sung.
No sugarplum fairies would visit, While we were snug in bed. We enjoyed the bag of fruit and nuts, That we received instead.
There never was much money, But we never seemed to care. There was never anything we owned, That we wouldn't gladly share.
The Christmas spirit was more important, Than any gift we could receive. And the joy delivered to the world, If we only could believe.
