Crayon on the Wall

Crayon on the Wall

A Poem by Lasergraph
"

I was thinking back to when my son was small when I wrote this. It was after spending time with my granddaughter. I enjoy looking back sometimes.

"

My memories never fail to flow,

Back to when you were small;

To toys scattered on the floor,

And crayon on the wall.

I remembered all the questions asked,

On trips with just us two,

Like why is the water wet,

And why the sky is blue.

Those times we had were simple times,

Your needs were simple too.

Like helping to reach upper shelves,

Or maybe tie a shoe.

The answers always seemed to work,

On questions you could see.

And ice cream cones could always fix,

A scraped and cut up knee.

The answers got a lot harder over time,

And now that you are grown,

You have a little one asking for you,

To give answers of your own.

This is very adorable, it's just amazing how quickly one grows, and how ones life goes from being easy to hard, and eventually you can look to your son and he can look at you, and you both know the answeres to the same questions and he'll know answers to new ones :)

He has a 3 year old now so he will get lots of practice. :-)
They do grow up so fast. It is amazing to hear watch them go through life and understand those old days for themselves. I love your shared memories and smile as they bring to mind so many sweet times with my own children. So nice.

Thank you. Those are the memories that seem to stick.
Love this! You capture that simplicity with nostalgia that is endearing and slightly melancholy. The line about wet water and the sky being blue was very sweet. Reminds me of my poem "Ode to Black" check it out.

Nostalgia the mother of all emotions. This made me think back to when I myself was just a child and had no worries or responsibilities. Great work!
