Departure

Departure

A Poem by Chebem Ike

From here I shall leave
I shall leave not to come back again
Tell my friends I have lived
I have lived to live again

In my days I set my heart on Him that was
And sought to find, most ernestly, He that is
I hoped for He that is to come

But I found Him not-
Not in the raising of the dead
Not in the walking of the crippled
Nor in casting of demons

Rather I found Him in
The hope of the lost-for redemption
In the joy of the redeemed for life
And in the life promised by Him

Now I readily abscond my inheritance of this clime
And ready for this punishment turned passage
Out of this war torn world.

To that place where we shall dance like trees
In morning breeze
Where we wear peace as cloth
Where God is realised in everything
And everything in Him

As is the promise!
