We, the silent ones

We, the silent ones

A Poem by Chebem Ike

We are the silent people of this world
The unspoken ones, but never unheard
We live among you, yet are hermits
We live and seek wisdom
Wisdom that disentangles, that frees
For freedom is movement
Movement towards good and God
For God is good

We are the rain in the clouded sky
Suffering through thunder and lightening
To shower on earth our life-giving blood

We are the logs in your fire
Smouldering or burning bright
We give our life for your satisfaction

We are the humble ground you tread on
Yet we bear the secret of all lives
We give our nutrients for your food and welcome you when your final bell rings

We are the grass in your unkept lawn
In the bush by the way side
We give you our oxygen and take your carbodioxide
You breath and have life

We are the silent people of this world
Unspoken but never unheard
We give cos we have received much
We are reticent cos should we speak
You may never comprehend
