Sleep and Dreams

Sleep and Dreams

A Poem by Chebem Ike

Dive into the stream of sleep
Dive into the deep
Dive forth and back
Forget the sorrows from life aback
The sorrows of love lost
And hate
Swim in the life you''ld rather have
Forget the life you'ld rather not have
Enjoy that your feral son graduated with a first-class honours
And your hustler daughter married a virgin "o! What honour
Enjoy it: after your graduation when
You are besieged by employers " please sign, just your pen"
Enjoy when your neighbour you slap
And the other cheek he willfully turns, without some flap
Enjoy 'specially when your wives cry
Genuinly, at your demise " o death why?"
Live in that elusive world
Enjoy it why it lasts-no word
Stir not at the buzzing of the mosquito
Nor at the crawling of the c'croaches o'er the pillow
For soon you shall awake
And when you awake
To face the world- from the stream of sleep broken
Remember that you have awoken!
