the villageA Story by Chebem IkeExcept from my short story " the village"
The night was so quiet, interrupted only by the chirping of the cricket and the pounding of a late night cook, somewhwre in the distance. I laid down on the mat, under the whistling pine tree. The crescent moon was at it's full shine. I watched it for a while, surrounded by the stars, it looked stately even in it's budding state. The events of the day quickly flashed across my mind-from the city and now here I was. I was happy. Who could think of sleeping outside in the city? Unless the person's life is worth nothing to him or her. The joy and the serenity the village availed me was without equal; it was for me, a source of the liveliest enjoyment.......
