The Letter

The Letter

A Poem by Lana

Hi,
Check the letter that fell under your bed.
It was a secret letter penned by a friend
A childhood friend who was in pain,
But was too scared to get it all out on paper.

The pen prophesized its future.
I think it wrote about how there were no longer
Any rooms left to close the door on,
No doors to slam, no prophets to yell at
About the pain and violence
That ripped through their organs.

It spoke of how it donated all their shame
To an organization
That then sold it for a million at auction.
Oh, the exposure was awful, but it was redundant
After that, they expected nothing
But boiled red apples that explode
Every time you take a bite.

It was buried under your mattress,
But now I think it just fell, and it’s under your bed.
Just clean up your room and find it.
I don’t know who told me that, maybe just a friend.

Oh, yeah, it was a childhood friend
Who wrote it for you in the mid-2000s.
They want you to read it now,
So you remember,
Not to forget their pain
And make them proud.

The future is in your hands.
I don’t have any more details than that.

Best regards.
