Blue Breakfast

Blue Breakfast

A Poem by Lana

The excitement of wanting something,
the fizzy drink in your gut.
It bubbles up
and throws off a sort of mousse,
and you just overdose on adrenaline.

The excitement of wanting something,
even if you don't get it.
Waking up knowing the tea is brewing,
the coffee pot fresh and black.
And even if nobody has your back,
you have a straight road ahead
no curves, no bumps.
It waits for you as you hope.

Hope that the something you want
becomes real at last,
and it always does
as long as you're excited just to want something.
So many do not dance with life.

Some wake up knowing breakfast is only a means to an end,
to nourish their bodies as their gut screams for help.
The coffee pot is lost on the shelves between bowls and plates;
they have no energy to find it.
They settle for instant coffee,
a piece of bread without checking the expiration date.

They have no road ahead,
only a rollercoaster.
We all deal with it,
but when you're excited for something,
the ups and downs don't matter.

It's the gut,
solid and strong,
attached to your heart,
as important as your umbilical cord.
Oh, you love life, don't you?
And the ocean waves crash on you,
rich soul you are.

The excitement was gifted to the hopeful.
God bless the future you,
while the present has been watered and erased the blue.
