Summer

Summer

A Poem by Lana

There is an airiness to summer
Your pressure comes down
Like low-lying fog
Yes, under gravity we're all pressured
To run from door to door
Expecting a pay check that hopefully one day turns you into a landowner
And when the air gets colder
And the jingles praise a bearded man much wiser
Its melody rings in every store and every street corner
Suddenly the lights turn on
They're electric, man-made but colorful, red and green and it matches your sweater
But when you feel lonely
Winter makes you want to get older
But summer is airy
Suddenly time stands still
You are floating
A world of possibilities
And in the horizon
You see the magnificient sunset
An orange color as bright as ember
Glowing and shining
But turning soft once it meets the optimism
Of the blue sky saying goodbye to Earth
And as all things change
The ashes of your past rise up
And float into the black night sky
Reminding you of all the time
You walked by the busy streets
And the bankers lit up their cigs
Burning their will to live for capitalism
The summer changes things
The crickets sing a song of glee
And the stars compete with the moon
Who shines the brightest over the sea?
Even the sea partakes in it
Only they embrace the light
And tell you that you are not scared of the night
You are scared of the reflection of the stars
The crystals on the sea turning
On and off like a switch
As bright and magnificent as Marilyn
Singing Happy Birthday to thee
While the beach whispers Happy life
Because in the middle it's difficult to celebrate
And by the end we all cry
