Patriot

Patriot

A Poem by Lana

I'm not patriotic
I know there can be value in it
But I love the world
I know some don't feel this way
I'm not pessimistic
I know there's good here
But some swim in war
In the blood of their own sisters
And brothers fight with worms filling their eyes
Eating up any trace of faith for the world
They love their country
But I am not that brave
I cannot fight my identity
After all, I've gained it in vain
My birth was an idea full of futility
I cannot be productive
I cannot be patriotic
I am not brave enough to fight the futile things
I see in me no other identity
But somebody who loves
And a lover of love
Is a lover of life
And so you could say I could fight
But I cannot kill to fight for love
It is a trap that condemns us
And I cannot judge
It was a trap made by the heavens above
Our flaws will always lead us
To Paradise Lost
