The Norm

The Norm

A Poem by Lana

I cannot write poetry for the life of me
I've tried to make it all rhyme at first but I never succeed
I guess I've never been one who liked rules
Or understood them
I get bored when somebody tell me about them
S**t, this could be like a semi-diary semi poetry
Who cares
Why does everything has to follow a norm?
Anybody would try to write poetry if there weren't so many rules
If the aesthetic weren't so important
Words have so much beauty of its own that adding melody to them
is just the cherry on the cake
Nobody cares about the icing, it's here to make people want to eat the damn cake
Did you ever think about it?
We will always stop trying if we can't be free
If we cease to let that bird sing and fly away from the big cage
and its bars.
but you're okay with it, you accept that a norm should be the norm
and a norm of the norm is the norm of your life

I like it; raises questions why we let what's considered normal dictate behavior. This poem could spark a poignant philosophical discussion on what's normal, why, and how it relates to social order. I like I can hear your voice through the words. Seem cool
