DEDICATION

This book is dedicated to all the people I have loved through the years. You changed my life and made me a better person. Thank you.

Questo libro è dedicato a tutte le persone che ho amato durante gli anni. Mi avete cambiato la vita e fatto diventare una persona migliore. Grazie.

I would like to thank the poetess Marisa Ferrario Denna who, many years ago, first made me throw away fifty six poems out of sixty and showed me what was really genuine in my work. Thanks to her I developed the body of work you see here. Then, I would like to thank my mother, Ambra Melzi. It is her undying passion for my poetry and support in collecting, choosing and editing my work that made this book possible.

BEFORE YOU READ

Some of my poems were originally written in Italian and some others in English. Therefore, you will first find each poem in the language it was first written in, followed immediately afterward by its translation.

There are three types of poems in this collection: plain ones, that can be read and enjoyed with simplicity; hermetic ones, that have a meaning you can guess, but will also suggest something more to your senses; and abstract ones, that you just need to experience as you would an abstract painting: by dropping all conscious judgment and letting your mind feel whatever it wants.

Enjoy the read.

Buona lettura.

Ti Amo

Ti amo

come il mare la tempesta,

come la notte ama ogni sua creatura.

Ti amo

dell’amore disperato

delle conchiglie aggrappate agli scogli,

dell’amore solenne

del canto dei grilli nelle notti d’estate.

Ti amo

dell’amore senza nome

che trasforma gli insetti in farfalle,

dell’amore che rinasce

come le stagioni,

come i campi sterminati della terra

ogni volta che la pioggia li nutre.

Ti amo,

e nessun’altra parola

pu™ spiegare ci™ che nasce,

e si solleva dentro me,

e mi lega a te.

I Love You

I love you

as the sea loves the tempest,

as the night loves all its creatures.

I love you

with the desperate love

of shells cleaved to the reefs,

with the solemn love

of crickets chanting in the summer nights.

I love you

with the nameless love

that turns insects into butterflies,

with the love that is born again

like seasons,

like earth’s endless fields

each time the rain descends to feed them.

I love you,

and any other word

can’t explain what is born,

and rises deep inside me,

and binds me to you.

Il Tuo Corpo Nudo

Il tuo corpo nudo

è la costellazione di un cielo

che mai vedr™,

il frutto dell'oceano e della luna

che le mie mani di naufrago

non potranno mai afferrare,

la terra di continenti

di cui non assaporer™ mai il raccolto.

Eppure io so

che dove tu giaci,

nuda,

non ci sono e

non ci saranno

né giorni, né notti,

ma solo la carezza della tua pelle,

eterna,

come l'occhio del ciclone,

come la calma prima dell'alba,

come la risacca a notte fonda.

Il tuo corpo nudo,

frutto della tormenta

e del sole,

un'isola di tempeste

che l'involucro del mago

racchiude.

Your Naked Body

Your naked body

is the constellation of a sky

I will never see,

the fruit of the ocean and the moon

than my shipwrecked hands

will never seize,

the earth of continents

whose harvest I will never taste.

Yet I know

that were you lie,

naked,

there are not and

will never be

days, or nights,

but only the caress of your skin,

eternal,

like the eye of the storm,

like the calm before dawn,

like ebb in the dead of night.

Your naked body,

fruit of snowstorm

and the sun,

an island of tempests

that the magus’s veil

enshrouds.

Irbis[1]

Amo

ogni ammonite[2]

che lacrima

dai Portali della Creazione.

La malinconia dei prati

che leviga

le Stele di Resina Dracena[3].

La brina

che nevischia

nella Dimora dei Fruscii.

Sei

l’Irbis Eterno

che sbreccia dune

nei miei polsi,

la Rosa del Deserto

che, caustica,

germina i suoi venti riarsi.

Irbis[4]

I love

every ammonite[5]

weeping

from the Portals of Creation.

The melancholy of meadows

levigating

the Steles of Dracaena[6] resin.

The hoarfrost

sleeting

in the Dwell of Rustles.

You are

the Eternal Irbis

that breaches dunes

in my wrists,

the Desert Rose

that, caustic,

germinates its parched winds.

Sparviere

Sparviere dai denti a sciabola,

tre lacci di platino

si allungano dal tuo stelo

a setacciare l’atmosfera,

bruciano ossigeno e

liquefanno energia,

nutrono in lampi

le tue lame piumate.

Conosco il profondo mormorio

delle tue spiagge interne,

il lento spaccarsi acuto dei ghiacciai

che modella in brividi

le risonanze fra le tue labbra.

I tuoi occhi mi catturano

come le rocce il tempo,

volte laviche

di arcani blu.

Sparrow-Hawk

Saber-toothed sparrow-hawk,

three laces of platinum

stretch from your stem

to search the atmosphere,

they burn oxygen and

liquify energy,

nourishing with lightings

your feathered blades.

I know the deep murmur

of your inner shores,

the slow and sharp breaking of glaciers

that molds in shivers

the resonance between your lips.

Your eyes capture me

as rocks time,

lavic vaults

of blue arcana.

Mantide

¡Mantide di smeraldo salino

 assapora il mio sangue

 nei tuoi occhi d'acqua!

¡Scolpisci,

con le tue dita di fruscii,

 le mie mani alle carezze!

Mantis

¡Mantis of salt emerald

 taste my blood

 in your eyes of water!

¡Sculpt,

 with your fingers of rustles,

 my hands to caresses!

My War Field

If ever a word was invented

for chaos and splendor,

that one bears the insignia

of your reddish name.

My war field,

in your lips

lie waves of autumn grass

set to fire

by the thunders of your heart.

And in your hips

chants the hoarse

and wild voice of the prairies,

roaming in the vastness of your birth.

And in your eyes,

my doom burns like a brand

cast in iron in my chest,

on my skin.

Untamed,

I want to journey across your winds,

spread in your breath

and consume you

until we fuse

in the shape of a storm.

Mio Campo Di Battaglia

Se una parola fu mai inventata

per il caos e lo splendore,

quella, porta lo stemma

del tuo nome rossastro.

Mio campo di battaglia,

nelle tue labbra

giacciono onde d’erba autunnale

incendiate

dai tuoni del tuo cuore.

E nei tuoi fianchi

canta la voce roca

e selvaggia delle praterie,

errando nella vastità della tua nascita.

E nei tuoi occhi,

il mio destino brucia come un marchio

colato in ferro nel mio petto,

sulla mia pelle.

Indomito,

voglio viaggiare attraverso i tuoi venti,

stendermi nel tuo respiro

e consumarti

fino a fonderci

in foggia di tempesta.

Sfinge Rossa

Tu sei l’ombra dei pilastri,

i semi di chiocciola sparsi

nella luna del petto.

Sei l’adunanza

dei passi

nel deserto,

l’occhio dell’oracolo

schiuso

nella sorgente di sale.

Sfinge eterna,

feroce e insensata,

angelo ferino di sole cocente,

affondi

nell’ombra di un luogo lontano.

Nel petto,

le dune.

Red Sphinx

You are the shadow of the pillars,

the snail seeds strewn

in the moon of my chest.

You are the gathering

of the steps

in the desert,

the oracle eye

hatched

in the spring of salt.

Eternal sphynx,

ferine angel of scorching sun,

ferocious and senseless,

you sink

in the shade of a faraway place.

In my chest,

dunes.

Venere

Purpurea vermena[7] primaria,

Venere Minerale

di arrossate, acide praterie,

innalzi nubi

di lave geologiche.

Creatura d'incendi,

afosi incendi d'agosto,

disciolti i ghiacciai,

versami

nel vaso cinese.

Venus

Deep red primary sprig,

Mineral Venus

of reddened, acid prairies,

you raise clouds

of geological lava.

Creature of wildfires,

sweltering August wildfires,

thawed glaciers,

pour me

in the chinese vase.

Ovest Misterico

Il tramonto si sgretola

nell'ovest misterico

del tuo aroma,

screpola quarzo

in soffocante fragranza

di fiore geologico.

Stormi richiamano

oasi di sabbia arabica

in golfi di carezze,

dove lupi respirano

il grido delle aquile,

la tua voce.

La luna

sanguina il giglio,

sdraia il pesceluna

nella tua sabbia.

E i tuoi piedi

sussurrano di gru rosa.

Mysteric West

The sunset crumbles

in the mysteric West

of your scent,

chaps quartz

in suffocating fragrance

of geological flower.

Flocks call

oasis of arabic sand

in gulfs of caresses,

where wolves breath

the cry of eagles,

your voice.

The moon

bleeds the lily,

lays the moonfish

in your sands.

And your feet

whisper pink cranes.

Buona Notte

Buona notte

a colei

che non potr™ mai avere

e che desidero

come la notte del tempo

desiderava le stelle.

Buona notte

mio fiore di tempesta,

mia corona

che racchiude

tutti gli occhi

e gli urli degli oceani

che popolano

il mio petto d’inchiostro.

Good Night

Good night to

the one

I will never have

and that I long for

as the night of time

longed for the stars.

Good night

my tempest flower,

my crown

that embraces

all the eyes

and screams of the oceans

that dwell

in my chest of ink.
