Chapter 5 - I'm Sure I Heard You Sigh

"

Dawn wakes to find herself in a new room and a worse situation.

"

Waking up this time around was significantly worse than the first two. For one reason, I was in a completely different room. It was pitch black all over - ceiling, floor and walls - with, surprise, a window encompassing the entire wall opposite me. That's right. I don't even get the illusion of not being watched this time. Secondly, I was strapped to the bed with metal cuffs and there was basically a metal bowl on my head with wires linking it to a screen about an arm's length away.
Behind my lovely privacy window I could make out Annabelle, Avid, and a new man who seemed more concerned than anyone else here. Annabelle and the new man discussed while Avid took notes. When he did remove his attention from his clipboard, his crystal blue eyes met my gaze and there was a sense of pain there I don't think I'll ever truly understand. True to her word, Annabelle had me in a room with better sound proof walls. The eerie silence made this room more uncomfortable than the last - I didn't even have the ticking of a clock.
Suddenly all three sets of eyes were on me. Annabelle reached towards the window, placing her hand on what I assumed was a control panel considering what happened next.

An intercom came on above my head and she spoke, "That is quite some skill you possess; to deactivate a nurse bot with just a spoon and no training? Brava." Her voice was so dull I couldn't tell if her last word was intended to be sarcastic or not. The new man craned towards the intercom. Focusing on him now, I realized he was much taller than his two associates and was built as though he could stop a train. His hair was jet black and his eyes were hidden behind a thick pair of sunglasses. Much unlike the rest of the apparent staff, he wore a full suit and tie to top off his look of reigning superiority.
“Patient 2-3-6," his low voice resonated within the walls, “I heard you obtained some memories? I hope you understand that has never happened before. When we wipe a mind clear, it's a clean slate every time. It's a point of pride for me. With that, we'll be much more effective this time, I promise." He turned his gaze towards Avid who had been staring at me with those pained eyes for so long it seemed as though that was his only expression. Avid shut his eyes and turned a dial. The bowl on my head came alive with electricity. It took a few seconds to warm up and in those few seconds I felt my heart and soul drop out of my body. The machine picked up intensely. My eyes rolled back into my head I could almost literally see parts of my mind being zapped. The pain wasn't something I was prepared to cope with. Once again, I blacked out.
