Doubly our Demise

Doubly our Demise

A Poem by Christopher Nelson
"

On words

"

So much power doth

The written language tell

Foster happiness or

Condemn to earthly hell

And so we must be careful

And so we must be wise

Words wielded against others

Spell doubly our demise

A return to writing, so I understand that I am out of practice. I do, however, want critical comment.

Not something I normally come across in poetry. Usually I read some simpering teenager's lost love and how their world is going to end. Its a relief to see poetry on the power that words can have. Often we forget that words, our way of communication, can do two things: life up or tear down. Well done, Mr Nelson and I would not change a thing.

Welcome!

This is a good return! It might be short, but your poem has definite power in it.

You've a stable rhyme, it feels natural and not forced, though the meter seems slightly out of whack on a few lines (most noteably at the end).

My favourite lines were the final two, a good reminder of an important message that brings the whole piece to a clear and tasteful close.
