What I wish for

What I wish for

A Poem by Elaine

I wish for world peace

so children wouldn't cry

everyday...genocide

too many people die

torture in the world

people in despair

everyday, wondering

with whom, a story we share?

what makes us so lucky

to live such blissful lives

we have the freedom

the live up in the skies

our tears are connected

no matter the barrier

a letter's still a letter

in the hands of each carrier

why can't we learn

from our violent past

we try and we try

but the lessons don't last.

Great meaning and great write!

There will never be world peace, human nature leads us to fight and begin wars. It's in our nature.

However, ignoring that sad fact, this is a great little piece. Good write :-)

Wow, this was a really thought-provoking write. I liked how this poem was full of truth and wisdom, and how it seemed to be so relevant to the world we're seeing now. The poem was simple, but the message was deep. I liked it a lot. :)

A very truthful yet longing and somehow resigned poem. It hints at the inevitability of disconnection and separation between fellow human beings - probably triggered in the first place by mistreatment from others, and mistrust.
But there is a strong connection, and this poem makes that point..

"everyday, wondering
with whom, a story we share?"

..This is exactly right: it could be or could easily have been us that suffered at the hands of others ignorance, but we are sadly unable to fully appreciate that until we too find ourselves in a similar position. People are always too caught up in their own lives to fully appreciate how lucky they really are - but without the experience to prove it to them, no-one can really accept this.
Good, well-meaning poem.

This is beautifully profound.. the deepest longing for peace... and simply for people to know what it is to be happy. Your last lines share a sad question that I wish could be answered easily. What can't we learn? Thank you for sharing your work.

Dude, this is lyrical. Perfect for a soft rock composition. I love it.
It's straightforward and real. Rhyme scheme is conventional, but very effective.
I love it.

Keep it up bro.
PS> I'd need your permission to use this in a song!
