The Body Fortress

The Body Fortress

A Poem by Lady Shade
"

This body

Fortress

Brick and bone

Blood and stone

Hand over hand

Pillars erected

My interior protected

Vines and shadowed places

Fountains and trapdoors

A corridor of stealth

The secret

My secret

Myself

The solitude

Behind the gates

Parapets and catapults

Weapons of war

Defense

Retaliation

Expatriation

Away from the rest

Here I hide

This castle of guilt

Towers of shame

Swallowing tides of humility

A drowning pool of reality

Is this worth protecting

Worth bloodied hands

From stacking stones

Sleepless nights

Hovering at battlements

Waiting for the attack

That only threatens

Growls from the forests

Just a tease

Inspiring fear
