Two HeartsA Story by Kayla
David : She is everything I have, and yet she does not notice me. I tell myself that one day she will fall madly in love with me, but I know that will never happen. She walks by my locker, and I smell her sweet perfume. Today is the day I will make her see me. My feet take me to where she stands, pulling books out of her locker. "Can I help you with those?" I manage to say. "Oh no thanks. I've got them." she says as she moves her cheerleading uniform out of the way of a book. "Are you sure? You look pretty. I mean...they look pretty heavy!" "Look I don't..."she looks at me for the first time. Her mouth hangs open. "I'm sorry for being so rude!" "Ehh...don't worry about it." "What is your name?" "David." I answer. "I'm Jessica. How come I've never seen you before? Are you new?" "No." "Oh my God! I'm so sorry!" she sounds alarmed. "It's no big deal! You seem very busy all the time." Jessica sighs. "Would you like to go out with me tonight?" My mind starts screaming. Why did you just ask that?! You know ' what she's gonna say!! She's gonna say... "Yes!" I stood shocked. "I have to go. See you tonight, David!" she runs away fast.
Jessica: "You did what?!" Monica exclaimed. "He seemed sweet!" I defended myself. "But he's a nerd!" "So!" "Don't you know what that'll do to your reputation?!" Monica waved her arms in the air. "I know!" "Then why would you say yes?!" "I don't know! I just did! He charmed me and I couldn't help it!" "Well now you're screwed because if you go on the date then you'll be known as the girl who loves nerds. But if you don't, then people will think you'll stand everybody up!" Monica told her best friend. I pounded my fist against the locker twice. "So what are you gonna do, Jess?" "I don't know!"
David: I walked over to my best friend, Austin. "Hey buddy! What's up? Why are you so happy?" he asked. "Can you tell?" "Yeah....you practically skipped over here!" "Well you'll never guess what just happened!" I beamed. "Would you just tell me!" Austin was starting to get a little irritated. "I just asked Jessica Hawk out!" "What?!" "And she said yes!" Austin stared at me. "Congrats buddy!" "Thanks!" The bell rang and it was time for school to start.
Later that day:David: I arrived home and ran up the stairs. I wanted to look good for my first date with Jessica. When I looked decent, I got into my car and drove to the theater. Jessica had told me earlier today that she didn't want me picking her up. I parked the car, went to a bench outside the theater, and waited for her to arrive.
Jessica: "What should I do?" I moaned and flopped down onto my bed. I knew that there was nobody in my room, but I hoped to get an answer anyways. Tears fell from my eyes. He seemed so sweet and I didn't want to hurt him. But was a guy really more important then my high school reputation? If I went to the movie with David, then I might be known as a loser for the rest of my life. But if I don't then I would hurt him so badly, and how could anybody do that?! But on the other hand, he could be the one that I was supposed to share the rest of my life with. And I would never know because peer pressure caused me to chicken out on the date. And what if this peer pressure is a warning. Maybe he'll turn out to be a real jerk who picks his nose?! There was a knock on my door. "Come in." I yelled. My mom closed the door behind her and sat on the edge of my bed. "Hunny, what's wrong?" she was upset because I was crying. I told her about David and the concerns I had about dating or not dating him. "Jess, I want you to do two things. Look at yourself real hard in the mirror and listen to your heart. You will know what to do." I nodded. My mom stood up and kissed me on the cheek. "I love you hun, and I know you'll make the right decision." "Thanks mom. I love you too." My mom left the room, and once again I was alone. My legs lifted me off the bed and took me to the mirror. But before I saw my reflection, I looked at the clock. The movie was going to start in five minutes. And then turning my gaze back to the mirror, I watched my saddened expression. And then suddenly I knew what to do.
David: My eyes looked at my wrist watch. 7:25 PM. She should be here by now. We should have already gotten our snacks and found seats. We should be chatting happily about ourselves and school. And just enjoying eachother's company. But she was not here, and I was left waiting. My heart sank. "You had no intention of coming, did you?" I whispered. I stood up and faced the brick wall behind me. I kicked and punched the wall, letting the pain of rejection control me. She was the only thing I had ever wanted! And she has done nothing but destroy me! I stopped beating the wall. I yelled. "Why God?! Why do you hate me so much?! What did I ever do to deserve this?!" "Deserve what?" said a pretty little voice behind me. I whirled around. All the anger and pain I felt disappeared as I looked upon Jessica. And without saying a word, I ran over to her and kissed her on the lips.
David and Jessica: Neither of us pulled away as we both realized that true love had taken us on it's course.
