FlashbacksA Chapter by KaylaChapter 2: Flashbacks Edward and I wanted to spend the day together. So we decided that we wanted to take a walk in the woods. The path that we had chosen was very rocky. I could have easily fallen and gotten hurt. We were quiet for most of the walk. Occasionally Edward would ask me if I needed to rest or if I wanted to go back. But when we weren't speaking, I was thinking. And I knew that Edward was listening to my thoughts. And I didn't mind that. Sometimes when I'm thinking, I get so lost in my thoughts and forget where I am. And I often walk into things. But this time it was different because I tripped and whacked my head on a rock. Next thing I knew, I was seeing things in my past. The first vision was from when I was 8 years old. My father and I were sitting by my mother's bed, crying as she screamed and thrashed around. She was unable to get out of the bed because she was chained to it. My mother would yell "Put the fire out! Stop the burn!", even though she was not on fire! A few days later, I was playing in the living room when I heard a scream. But when I got to the room, it was too late. My dad's body was spread across my mom's lap as she sucked his blood. Years went by since that day. And as I reached the age of 16, I vowed to murder the vampire that destroyed my family. In my quest for vengeance, I found a clue that might have linked someone named Carlisle Cullen to the vampire who murdered my life. I automatically assumed that he was the murderer. So a year later, I came to Forks, Washington to destroy him. And I knew it wouldn't be easy considering that he was a vampire and I was a human. My plan was to go to school in Forks and establish the fact that I was just another human being. Meanwhile, I would take any means to get to know the Cullen clan because there was some part of me that believed Carlisle was innocent. And in order to shut that part up, I needed legitimate proof.
The vision blurred. And when it became clear again, it was my first day at Forks High School. I was trying to figure out my locker combination, when this girl bumped right into me. She and the boy who was walking beside her, stopped. The girl had long brown hair and chestnut eyes. But the boy made my inside crawl. He was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. And that could only mean one thing.......he was a vampire! The boy clenched his teeth and his entire body tensed. "Hello?" said the girl as she waved her hand in front of my face. "Did you hear me? I said I'm sorry." "Oh it's ok!" I managed to say. "You're the new girl aren't you?" I nodded. "Well my name is Bella. And this is Edward." "I'm Kayla." "If you need anything, Edward and I would be happy to help. Wouldn't we Edward?" Bella nudged him with her elbow. But Edward didn't reply. He just kept staring at me with his cold black eyes. He looked like he was gonna kill me right then and there. "Edward.....don't." Bella whispered. "Bella, can I talk to you for a moment?" he said through gritted teeth. The last thing I saw before the flashback changed was Edward and Bella walking away together. And then Edward turned and gave me the scariest look I had ever seen.
The next memory was from that very same day. I was walking home from school, when something grabbed me and bolted into the woods. The next thing I knew, my body was sailing through the air and it crashed into a tree. And then I saw him coming towards me. Edward grabbed my shoulders and hoisted me off of the ground. His cold hands pinned me to a tree. "You will pay for wanting to kill us!" he hissed. I was stunned. How did he know why I was here? "That is none of your business!" he said, as if answering my thoughts. "You have no idea how badly I want to kill you!" He glared at me. "Then why don;t you?!" I glared back. "Edward stop!" said a voice from behind the trees. Edward snapped his head toward the direction that the voice came from. I followed his gaze. A female vampire stepped into view. She was dressed fashionably and her hair was in a pixie-like style. "Go away, Alice!" Edward said, harshly. "Not until you put her down!" Edward hissed at Alice. "The only vampire that she is going to hurt is the one who really turned her mother." Alice told him, calmly. Edward let go of my shoulders and I tumbled to the ground. Alice ran over to me and scooped me up in her arms. "I'll take you to Carlisle. He's a doctor. He'll fix you up." she said in my ear. Then Alice turned and looked at Edward. "She's gonna be your best friend." she told him.
The memory ended once more, and my eyes fluttered open. I was laying on a couch with my body propped up by pillows. I reached up and pulled the bag of ice off of the top of my head, which was throbbing. Dazed and confused, I tried to stand up but something kept pushing me down. "You've been out for two hours! I was starting to get worried." said a familiar voice. The sound erased all confusion from my mind and I realized that Carlisle was holding me down. "What happened?" I moaned. "You were out hiking with Edward, when you tripped and hit your head. Edward brought you to me." "Ouch!" my hands flew up to my head. Carlisle grabbed the bag of ice and put it back on my head. "Edward would like it better if you kept this on. Plus it will help numb the pain." "Ok." I muttered as I suddenly became very drowsy. Carlisle sat down at the edge of the couch. "The medicine should be kicking in soon. Are you feeling sleepy?" "Yes. Umm...where is Edward?" I asked. But I did not get to hear the answer because sleep overwhelmed me and I drifted off into my dreams. © 2010 KaylaAuthor's Note
