Your Eyes

Your Eyes

A Poem by Sidewalk Observer

The evening draws - summers gone,

soothing sunlight has withdrawn.

The stars are bare - atmosphere

blankets Earth as moon appears.

Morning rare, midnight air,

something flashes over there.

Here we are, here we’ll be,

bright your eyes shine insecure.

Watch as darkness quenched by thirst

in your sapphire eyes die first.

Hear the mountains rip the skies

as your almond eyes despise…

the way things are, the way things be,

the way things were the way we see.

The way the world so consequently

twists your heart so violently.

Could your emerald eyes stop crying?

Keep your freckled eyes deciding?

that the salty stain glass oceans

pouring through the doors wide open

water softly, water quick

the frozen soil my heart sticks.

Had your saddened glance not caught me,

had your cheerful stare been spared,

I wouldn’t sing here, I wouldn’t be

mesmerized by looks we share…

the way things are, the way things be,

the way things were the way we see.

The way the Earth spins ever faster

as we age our bodies plaster.

Sapphire oceans, emerald seas,

almond isles by milky beach,

speckled iris, black and white

- window panes to your soul reach.

Forget a moment all these things,

embrace a second what beauty means.

If just one look can make me sing

let’s see your smile

            … behind Your Eyes.
