Puppet

Puppet

A Poem by Sidewalk Observer

Open my eyes and what do I find?

An anonymous voice creeping up from behind;

a whistle, a thistle, a snap of the wrist -

I’m gasping for breath, I’m losing my mind.

My body thrown coarsely; I move side to side.

The pain in my actions I’m trying to hide.

My physical movement, I have no control -

these thoughts of entrapment I wish would subside.

Those strings are attached to my hands and my feet.

They master my person - I’m finally beat.

I try to convince self I’m constantly free,

but I’ve come to accept my untimely defeat.

I quiver, I shake, and I wait for the call

of my master’s commandment - I feel so small.

I take a step backward; he yanks at the cord;

my body lifts skyward; I wait for the fall.

My soul uninvited, my body now tries

to escape this dark prison -

the heart weakens and dies.

I leave me to rest - allowing its embrace.

I wallow in sorrow - I sulk in this place

The point of view you speak from is quite strange. It gives an extra edge to the piece. Good work.

!!!! I love this. Honestly, the eerie, creepy imagery of the helpless puppet is just chilling. I LOVE the last stanza. I want to use more words to describe how awesome this is, but for some reason I cannot articulate that well this morning....xD Anyhow, fantastic piece :) Amazing.
