They Can Never Flee

Quiet! Listen! And you can hear them too
The wind blows, the same wind that blew yesterday
But it blows today carrying the voices of those that so tragically died, from those who's choices that were so few
Imprinted on the land, forever, the horror, the blood, of those that so tragically died here, in only three days.

Long ago thousands of men, on this land too their last breath
This blood soaked ground, I consider to be hallowed ground
Some here, were so young, the last thing on their mind was the word death
The wind will always blow their horrific cries, the wind listen carefully and the only thing you will hear is this sound.

Husbands, fathers, brothers, sons, all tragically died here
Brother against brother, death doesn't care about the color of a person's skin
At times you can feel a thousand eyes, at you as they peer
A lost battle from the start, in the end no one would win.

The only winner here was death itself, loving this, as it collected so many
Death always lurking in the shadows, always ready to take the new within it's dreaded lair
Bravely going to their death, no one paid any attention to their pitiful pleas
So much to live for, cut down in their prime, so many no time to even care.

The young, the old, the black, the white, all of them had the same fate
A fate a lot of them were not ready for, all knowing they were probably going to die
None of them wanting to cross over death's waiting gate
As they crossed over, most of them, not even having the time to question why

A battle, never forgotten, and I don't think it ever will be
All the death all the blood, just like when Titanic hit the ice berg
Lost souls, still fighting a ungodly battle, from this place so many can never flee
The most horrific battle of the Civil War, in a small Pennsylvania town known as Gettysburg.
