With Pride

With Pride

A Poem by Lanaia Lee
"

ancient Egyptian prayer

"

I bow to you in respect in reverence, me just a simple man truly unworthy of any blessings you could grant to me
I don't even think I should be in this sacred place where it is said you live and reside
Amun Rah, creator God of everything and all, you know how I ended up here, I can't hide my heart from you, you know everything and all, even about me, from you I could never hide
You know in this place, your home and temple, I had to sneak in, to be in your presence, I am a lowly servant, almost taboo, in this place I should not be.

My wife is with child and very ill, and I am so afraid she will leave me alone and die, and I am so afraid
I should have gone to Isis, goddess of fertility, with my pleas, but you are the maker of Isis, and I figured you could help my plight even more
I hope you see it within your grace, to forgive me for my deception, but I am just a lowly subject, one that is truly scared and afraid
I beseech your infinite knowledge in grace in this matter of such important, please Amun Rah, hear my heart felt pleas, and make every thing good of everything that lies in store.

I know you are willing to hear me, because you didn't strike me down when I had to sneak in with the other high priest, you told me then, my prayer you wished to hear
You know my wife, Akila, she is a good women, but not as young as most of child bearing years
Finding out she was with child, scared her filling her fragile body with intense fear
You know we tried many years to bring forth a child, and I pray this miracle of life is from you, a gift from you, we fervently believe this, this alone calms our silly mortal fears.

So, here I am, bowing my head before you the greatest of our gods, Amun Rah, creator of all Gods, and everything our eyes can see
You are a benevolent God, so I know within my heart, all my prayers by you will be heard
To ensure a healthy child, and the life of my wife, you have heard my prayers, now I know things will be, the way you, my God, wants them to be
Free us from this thing that plagues us, making us carefree, and able to be just like the birds, that fly in the clear blue Egyptian sky, just like then, no cares and totally free.

You are a mighty, powerful God, I do not even deserve to be in your presence, within your sight
But you saw it fit, to let me come before you, and the benevolent God you are, you found me worthy of the blessings, you will be able to bestow upon someone like me
Now I know our journey will be easier, I can feel your warm bestowing light
You and you alone, can make our journey easier, because it is you that holds the key.

I will leave you now, as my journey, has ended, the end of the road, I made it to you with my prayers and my pleas
So, I ask for your help once more, protecting me, as I leave you sacred sanctuary, your home, the place in which you reside
I will be as quiet as a mouse, as from your presence, I will try and now safely flee
Protect me Oh God of all Gods, as I leave your benevolence, knowing you have heard me, I leave you now, as now within my heart there is satisfaction and pride.
