The Saddest ManA Poem by Lanaia LeeTitanic
Today, I received a cable, you were in trouble and needed my help
An Irishman stands beside his Kindred, no matter what the problem may be
You now reside in New York, so here I must go, to give you my help
I will always be here, you know that you can always depend upon me.
I have to find my way to South Hampton to board a ship going to New York, but not just any ship, this ship has adopted the name the ship of dreams
Dawning the reputation as unsinkable, boarding her, this reputation, this ship I felt more safe on this one, more than most
Of all the luxury liners I have ever seen, of the crop, she is definitely the cream
Soon we are on our way, I watch as land disappears from sight, from our sight it totally disappears, the coast
I haven't been anywhere in years, so saving my money, I was able to travel in first class
Never anticipating I had any reason to despair
I never expected, our ship would end hitting a frozen, big, white mass
Not expecting anything, most of us were enjoying ourselves without any thought or any cares.
For two days, even though the air was bitter cold, we would enjoy this palace that floated upon the water
Many made the remark," Even God himself couldn't sink this ship"
How arrogant does that make man sound? Soon, we would find our self in a situation, one in which we could not deter
Soon from the cold Atlantic herself, we would all take a sip.
The last night, on a Sunday, so many of us would perish and die
The mass of ice, protruding from the darkness of night, this would end beaconing our demise
So many of the dying, they would end questioning the Almighty as to why
Seven hundred of us were saved, including myself, but fifteen hundred on that night would die.
See some challenged the Almighty, that should have known his answer would me one of biblical proportion
Showing mankind, he was always the one in charge, holding man's fate within his hands
On that faithful Sunday night, Titanic again would never see the light of the sun
When I finally reached you, I was a totally changed man, one of the saddest in the land.
