Templar

Templar

A Poem by Lanaia Lee

just like the title

I stand before you, an innocent soul, unjustly accused, of something I did not do
I am  holy man, a warrior for God, always honest, except for this unjust accusation
I am a Knight's Templar, what you accuse me of, retribution, my choices are very few
You holding me against my will, a sword being your gun.

We were ordained to protect pilgrims on their journey to the holy land
We took an oath to serve our God, in anyway we could
Now in  dungeon, no one dares to lend me a helping hand
We honestly thought to serve our God, we did everything we should.

On this day of Friday the thirteenth, the king of France, has more or less condemned us to death
Accusing us of things that are just totally beyond belief
Even under torture, a few of us, never admitted to heresy, knowing this meant, we would take our last breath
All of us would endure, unheard of torture, but in sight from this, there was no relief.

Under the stress and duress of torture, a lot of us would admit many untrue things
As most just wanted the pain to stop and just go away
Those that confessed, trying to stop the torture, to these unjust accusations, most of us did not cling
We all knew, the end of our life, the decision for death, would be handed down on this day.

Death for all in inevitable, but I didn't think it would happen this soon
So, here I sit in this dungeon, preparing myself for an unjust death
Knowing within my very being again I would never see the sun or the moon
The next sight I will see is the place I will take my last breath.

Now being lead to the town square, a stake in the ground surrounded by all kind of wood
I am being tied to the stake, as they start lighting the wood all round
The fire start to be rampant, the smoke entering into my lungs, but I'm not worried because I have lived a life of service and good
The fire is getting hotter, I curse you as I take my last breath, then I do not make another sound.
