Illusions

Illusions

A Poem by Tai Ryens
"

Ever feared a mirror?

"

I am lost in the labyrinth of my mind,

I am lost in the hallway of a carnival funhouse;

Distorted images of myself surround me in the mirrors,

With nothing but my despair to arouse.

Seemingly endless joy filled me when I first arrived,

False happiness emitted through my every breath;

Little did I know that my playmates would reach out to smother me,

And that I would glance at them not with glee but detest.

Now, distorted illusions of myself stalk the hallways,

Having deep in their blackened heart the desire for my destruction;

Refusing to pause until I am caught,

So that I may be tormented forever by my own reflection.

Indistinguishable mimics of myself laugh and sneer,

Celebrating that they may now admire me as I bleed;

While I long for a company other than myself…

While I long for another being to save me.

I fear that whenever I look into a mirror that my reflection may have some different look in her eyes that isn't me. And yeah, let's get to the review of your poem.

Mirrors show a reflection of you. Reflection can mean some different things, the first (as the one used here), is a "casting back" of an image, and sometimes it can mean "opinion, view, feeling."

And as I've read in a some book, your reflection can be the deepest part of you.

That the mirrors aren't just illusions can be frightening that the reflections aren't just casting back the physical aspect of you, but also your views of yourself and who you really are.

It can be interpreted either way, by anyone, just speculating here. I feel haunted now. Good job, however it is good, but is not my favorite. But I am still haunted.

The first stanza was a great foundation for the rest of the poem. I liked the funhouse idea and how it wrapped the ending with "mimics of myself laugh and sneer," very creative write.

Mirrors show a reflection of yourself whether its the way you see yourself or the way you feel when your eyes look back at you. Sometimes you look in and see happiness and beauty and sometimes you see the opposite, turmoil. Sometimes you don't even see yourself as you seem you see how you feel and not what you are and you don't understand it. Mirrors can do more harm than well and this poem explained it very well:)

Very well written. Mirrors can be used to look deep inside ourselves. Although sometimes the image is distorted. Influences like name-calling, abuse, low self-esteem can cause this.
When I look into the mirror I see a failure, a useless wreck, extremely ugly and a waste of space. But enough about me. Great poem!

You always write with such intensity of your deepest darkest soul. I think the reflection you have talked about is a reflection we all see in ourselves at different times. Feeling outcast , ridiculed etc. It is a part of life that we must face and grow from. This is our salvation .

Wow! Amazingly well written. Nice flow and the vocabulary is exceptional. I love this one, the emotion adn fear is lingering within the lines, and the whole thing is excellent.

I intensity of emotion is climatic and well pronounced. You are a very good writer with such a mature perpective, so well articulated. I felt, moved, disturbed, saddend by the latter content, a worthy read nonetheless.
