The Chaser of Dawn

The Chaser of Dawn

A Poem by Tai Ryens
"

he's the chaser of dawn, yet he's had his share of vision.

"

He's the chaser of dawn

for sunshine has yet

to illuminate his vision,

in spite of the

zillion comets

that blind him

Forever is he to remain

isolated within his

cold, damp world;

an overwhelming

thunderstorm looming

atop his scalp

for eternity

Ask him how he likes it,

and optimism will shimmer

in his body, bright

as the stars that blanket

over him, and yet

a hopeless cynic remains

trapped within his eyes

Ask him how he likes it,

and he will only glance upon you,

then state the rain stains

on his cheeks are salty,

but natural

Ask him why he likes it,

and watch his exasperated

limbs wobble with exhaustion,

threatening to give way

and rest at last;

but he himself would

jolt awake restlessly

and claim the title as:

The chaser of dawn . . .

Unethical, I know, but it makes complete sense to me.

The picture reminds me of the Warrior cats series by Erin Hunter.
I love this piece and the mysteries my mind can't seem to fathom within it.
Very well done!

No problem. ^^
Hey, where's my cake. Good poem Tai. A little on the tame side for you but you can't make with the violent metaphors any more than I can be funny all the time

I'm just here because Baby R said there would be cake...

First, I fail to see what is unethical about this piece. If I'm missing something, please bring it to my attention...I go senile sometimes *laugh* I think you've got a pretty good piece here; it captures the essence of the pessimist in full form. I am in the "the-glass-is-aways-half-empty" camp myself, and I can tell you, with unwavering certainty, you have managed to articulate cynicism most adeptly.

Apropos to nothing: I have jeans older than you. Just saying.

Thanks for posting this piece, Tai; I look forward to reading more of your work.

It made sense to me in this way, myself being the resident cynic of my friends and family, that despite the pessimistic outlook we have there are little slivers of hope inside of us. We can't help but to look on the less than bright side, it weighs us down, though.
At least, that's how I've taken this.
